Philosophy
To be seen, heard, and understood is one of the most profound gifts we can receive. I strive to create a therapeutic space where you feel safe and accepted, no matter your history—a place where your story matters, and you are free to explore your experiences with curiosity and courage. I approach therapy with empathy, humor, compassion, and lots of metaphors—balancing the heaviness of healing with moments of joy and connection.
By walking alongside you, I aim to help you process your feelings, untangle the complexities of your past, and move toward a more purposeful future. Healing is not linear, but it is possible—and I am here to support you every step of the way.
Education and Credentials
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCCANDIDATE12431) who holds a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelors in Language Arts Education with an emphasis on post-colonial and gender studies literature from The University of Oklahoma.
Professional Experience and Areas of Practice
During my internship in community mental health, I specialized in providing trauma-informed care, emphasizing therapy rooted in attachment theory, somatic experiencing, and self-empowerment to individuals who have experienced high levels of trauma. While I work primarily with adults and teens in the LGBTQIA+ community who are experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, trauma-related symptoms/PTSD, grief, or boundary issues, I also have experience working with couples/relationships (including nontraditional relationship structures like open relationships and non-monogamy) and families.
I use evidence-based and person-centered techniques like Internal Family Systems (IFS), emotionally focused therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, and psychodynamic approaches to meet your unique needs. Together, we can create space for growth, foster self-compassion, and rediscover your resilience!
Rates
As a candidate, I do not currently take insurance. Sessions are $85/hour. For more information and to schedule an appointment, please reach out via email at gariscounseling@gmail.com
